Swampy Floor

Swampy Floor is a fun layered Halloween cocktail.  You get to use black vodka in this cocktail.  Winner!!

Halloween cocktail, black vodka, midori, melon liqueur, layered cocktail

Can you tell I have been into layered cocktails and shooters lately?  I just love the way they look, I can't help myself.

Tomorrow will be here before we know it and along with it will come October.

The first of October is the day that we usually start decorating for Halloween around here.

I have to admit.....we already started.

I don't know.......something about how fast this year is flying by makes me want to start everything early before I miss it.  Which is totally fine with me, that way I get to look at our decorations for a longer time.

Today I wanted to make another fun layered Halloween cocktail so I grabbed these three items and started testing out my layers.

I honestly thought that the Midori would float on top of the orange juice......guess I was wrong.

It doesn't matter, I think it still looks cool.

It tastes pretty darn cool too.

I was afraid that I would get a good shot of the vodka right off the top and that it would make me not want to drink the rest.......wrong again.  Sure I tasted it, but it was good!  I got a little mix of some of the stuff underneath it and that first sip went down pretty smooth.  As did the rest of the sips.

I think my creation would be a fun cocktail to serve at a Halloween party.  You could even have a few of these cocktails layered and ready for your guests as they arrive.

Here is my recipe for a Swampy Floor:

  • 1 ounce melon liqueur
  • 2 ounces orange juice
  • 1 ounce black vodka

In a cocktail glass filled 3/4 with ice, pour in the melon liqueur.  Next layer the orange juice on top of that.  Finally layer the black vodka and enjoy!

Here's to tomorrow starting the last fourth of the year!

Cheers!!

Ghostly Uprising

This Ghostly Uprising shooter is perfect for Halloween.  It reminds me of the Brain Hemorrhage I made and has the same kind of consistency.  It's really a fun shooter to drink!

I am starting to feel the pressure of the holidays coming on already.

We only have 6 days left of September and then it is a countdown.....oh wait.....it's already been...until Halloween.

Over the weekend our oldest daughter and I went shopping for her witch's costume at our local Halloween store.  Now she has known that she wants to be a witch for Halloween since July, so that part was easy.

There were 4 different costumes for her to choose from and she decided on this one.  The only difference in the one pictured and the one she got was that the purple parts are not velvety on hers.  She chose a broom and necklace and I bought a variety of SUPER sparkly eye shadows for her, her little sister and I to use and we were set!

Phewph.......glad that's over.

Now I will need to figure out decorations and a menu for our party.

I have a fun Halloween Treats board on Pinterest with some ideas I've pinned.  I am always looking for more, so if you are not following me on Pinterest please do so and let me know you did so that I can follow you back.  Let's share some fun Halloween ideas, whether it's food, decorating or just something fun!

Today I created an interesting shooter.

This one tasted pretty good.......except for me trying to swallow down that HUGE hunk of Irish Cream you see in the picture.

After I made it my husband and I decided that we want to try to (and I say "try to" b/c we come up with great ideas.....and then......we have 4 kids.........and well......look we're here and we showed up and we're all dressed........yeay, big accomplishment!!) make a line of these (or something similar) on the bar and as people show up on Halloween, make them shoot one.  Fingers crossed we actually have time to do it.

Here is the recipe for my Ghostly Uprising:

  • 1 ounce peach schnapps
  • 1 ounce Irish Cream vanilla cinnamon
  • 1/2 ounce black vodka
  • 1/4-1/2 ounce grenadine

In a shot glass, pour in the peach schnapps.  Next layer the Irish Cream on top.  Then layer the black vodka on top of that.  Now with a straw, drip the grenadine on top until the Irish Cream starts to lower into the peach schnapps.

Here's to the holidays coming whether we are ready or not!

Cheers!!

Rotten Orange

Here is a fun layered shot that you can serve your Halloween guests.  I just think that black vodka makes these Halloween cocktails look amazing!

I'm not sure about all of you, but this house is TOTALLY getting into the Halloween spirit.

Our oldest daughter has known that she wants to be a witch for Halloween since July and our youngest daughter just got a mermaid costume at Costco the other day.

One costume down, hopefully we can borrow a witch costume and then we just need the boys to decide if they are going to dress up this year or not.

My husband and boys want to make a little "Haunted House" this year for the kids to walk through to get their candy on Halloween night.  They say it will be a work in progress where they add a little to it every year.

Guess that means that the girls and I will hit the street going door to door for treats.

If you missed it.....I BOUGHT A BOTTLE OF BLACK VODKA!!

Last year I saw bottles of black vodka at our local BevMo and never bought one.

This year I was not going to make that mistake!

I am excited to make some cocktails for you all with my black vodka.

I think they layered ones look pretty cool.  This shooter made me do they squinchy face dance because I really tasted the vodka.....and if you didn't know, I'm not big on taking a straight shot of something.........unless it's Fireball......and it's chilled, then it's not as bad.

Here is my recipe for a Rotten Orange:

  • 1 ounce orange juice

I rimmed a shot glass with orange sprinkles to make it more festive.  In a shot glass pour in the orange juice.  Next layer the black vodka on top and you are done!

Here is to my very first Halloween cocktail of the season!  More to come......

Remembrance

Where were you 13 years ago today?

Do you remember?

I do.

I was on my way to work, I had just dropped off our oldest (then 2 1/2 years old) at his daycare.  I hopped back into the car, turned on the radio and my heart stopped there for a second.

What is this?

Is this a joke?

Are the radio announcers pulling one over on me?

It took me a couple minutes to realize what had happened.  I got to work and the TV's were on.  Things were a lot quieter then they usually were around the shop.

Then I saw the videos, oh my goodness......I heard about it on the radio, but until I actually saw it on the TV.....it just became real.

Our nation has done a lot of healing since then, yet there is much more to do.  My heart goes out to all of the families who have lost loved ones on this day 13 years ago.

To all of those who are still with us, yet were traumatized by this horrific event.  To all of those who's lives will never be the same.  My heart goes out to you all, America.

In honor of "remembering" this day 13 years ago, I wanted to create a cocktail to honor our great nation.  I call it "Remembrance".

I initially wanted to make a layered cocktail, but that failed, so I just went with it and kept mixing.

This is a mix of red (hardness & valour), white (purity and innocence) and blue (vigilance, perseverance & justice) alcohols and mixes.

Here is a photo of the end result:

Here is a photo of the ingredients:

Here is my recipe for Remembrance:

  • 2 ounces cherry vodka
  • 3 ounces lemon-lime soda
  • 1/2 ounce grenadine
  • 1 ounce blue curacao

Fill a cocktail glass 3/4 with ice.  In a shaker, add the vodka and lemon-lime soda.  Shake and strain into the glass.  Add the blue curacao and grenadine.  Give it a stir and enjoy!

Here's to our great nation!

Cheers!!

Honeydew

Happy Friday!

What a week........what......a.......week.

Every day seems to have been insane and filled with stuff to do.  Starting Tuesday of this week my remaining 3 children that have been home, started school!  Yeay!!  Now I have 3 children in school 5 days a week (one of which is only a half day since she's in kindergarten) and our fourth child goes to preschool 2 days a week for a few hours.

I officially have no children in the house for 5 hours and 40 minutes a week.  Yes...I counted.
When you have 4 kids, you count those things.......trust me!

Tonight is opening night for soccer which our oldest daughter (5yo) is SUPERDY DUPERDY excited about.

Then she has her first official soccer game tomorrow morning.....more excitement.  Our oldest has another baseball tourney this weekend as well, which means it will be another busy weekend.

Wait did I mention that this weekend marks our first official game of the season for our SF 49ers??

Oh, well it is!

Plus we are playing the Cowboys......which makes it fun because good friends of ours are......gasp......Cowboy fans!

Rivalry, smack talking, bragging rights, you know how those games go.  Go Niners!!

Anyways, onto today's cocktail!

I saw a post today of 13 vodka shots you actually want to take.

Sounded promising.

I chose a couple and decided on this one today.

I mixed it up, strained it and shooted it.

Ah, it was OK.

For some reason I could taste the lime juice more then I had hoped for.  I might leave the lime juice out next time and add more melon liqueur.

Either way, it was another day where I took a shot too early.

Here is a photo of the end result:

Here is a photo of the ingredients:

Here is the recipe for a Honeydew:

  • 1 ounce citrus vodka
  • 1/4 ounce melon liqueur
  • 1/4 ounce honey liqueur
  • 1/4 ounce lime juice

In a shaker, add ice and all of the ingredients above.  Shake and strain into a shot glass.

Hope you all had a good week.  Enjoy your weekend!!  Remember (at least in this house), it's pizza and beer Friday!!

Cheers!!
